Helpful hints – how to approach journalists What do journalists want from PR people? Make their work easier Most magazines work with a skeleton staff who usually prefer to contact people by email – so always include your email address on press releases. Similarly, including your website address is useful as journalists often use websites to source additional information about companies. A picture is worth a thousand words Make a couple of your best pictures into thumbnail images that you can send with releases and add 'Print quality images available on request' at the end of each release. Print quality images are a minimum of 300dpi, and many home-based journalists have insufficient bandwidth to receive lots of high res images a day! Cut and paste When emailing press releases, don’t send it as an attachment; always cut and paste the press release into the body of the email. Opening an attachment means extra work for the journalist – which in turn increases the chances of your press release going unread. |
